THE Nigeria Institute of Training and Development, NITAD has
called on the Federal Government to take advantage of the relevant bodies and
stakeholders in policy formulation and implementation towards making its initiatives,
particularly the skills acquisition programme introduced in the school
curriculum to be productive.
The President of the institute, Dr. Kayode Oluwagbuyi stated
this during the 2016 Fellows Gathering and investiture of new fellows which was
held in Lagos on Friday stating that the inability of the federal government to
partner with all the stakeholders would minimize productivity on its
initiatives.
“If you want to train students to imbibe some skills in them,
have you trained the trainers? That is what we call training the trainers.
Those who would train these students need to be properly trained and guided,
and that is where an institute like ours comes in.
“The inability of the programme to make significant impact
might not be unconnected with the fact that relevant stakeholders were not
involved. For example, the institute has members who are curriculum developers,
facilitators and those who are specialists in presentation.
“It is important that we put round peg in a round whole to
achieve the desired result. Also, there should be a database of the skills
available and what is required so as to avoid teaching the wrong skills”, he
said.
The event which was themed ‘The Role of Fellows in a
Professional institute” had Mr. Sunday Adeyemi, Registrar and Chief Executive
Officer of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria as a
guest speaker with a total of 12 new members inducted as Fellows of the institute.
