2016 BUDGET: Senate Vows To Monitor Implementation

Dr, Bukola Saraki
SENATE President, Dr. Bukola Saraki yesterday stated that the Senate will monitor the implementation of the 2016 Appropriation Budget of the Federal Government to ensure that all the provisions and programmes are successfully implemented for the benefit of Nigerians.
Saraki stated this shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the budget into law adding that the two arms of government worked tirelessly on it towards improving the standard of living of the citizenry.
“On our own part as members of the National Assembly, we will closely monitor the implementation of the budget by providing effective oversight.

“We will also ensure that all necessary laws that will aid the transformation of the contents of the budget into practical policies, projects and programmes that will directly have positive impact on Nigerians will be put in place.
“That is why we have started the amendment of the Public Procurement Act to ensure that a substantial percentage of the money to be spent in the budget are made available to Nigerians through government patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods and services”, Saraki said.
The Senate President while noting that the delay on the passage of the budget was circumstantial, however promised that the issues will not repeat itself in the 2017 budget adding that the President has offered to ensure early presentation to circumvent any hitches.
He therefore called on ministers, heads of departments and agencies (MDAs) to take charge and kick start implementation of the various provisions made in the budget immediately in line with the expectations.
