Following the judgment delivered by the Court
of Appeal in Imo State, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA has hailed the
judgment which declared its candidate in the April 11 and April 22
Supplementary elections, Dr. Alex Otti as the rightful winner adding that light
has finally prevailed over darkness.
In a statement filed by Chief Willie Obiano,
the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Party and also the Executive Governor,
Anambra State, through his Senior Special
Assistant on Media, Mr. John Eze, the party described the Appeal Court’s
decision as a victory for the democracy and landmark victory against the
oppressed citizens of the state who voted overwhelmingly for their preferred candidate
but robbed during the back door.
It categorically stated that its unwavering
confidence in the judiciary prompted the resolve to vigorously pursue the
matter to a logical condition through the instrument of law adding that the
judgment has indeed restored the confidence of the citizenry in the nation’s
judiciary.
He also reaffirmed the party’s optimism that similar redress in favour of other APGA candidates pending in the Appeal Court seeking for the validation of their stolen mandates are on the way noting that the robbery was in fact a broad-day robbery which no court of law would overlook.

“The Appeal Court judgment is therefore a validation
of the popular wish of the Abia people who had longed for visionary leadership
which Dr. Alex Ott’s technocratic background and profile in excellence would
guarantee, he said.
“We in APGA have always believed in the
supremacy of the law. We have always campaigned for due process and for a stronger,
more independent judiciary. The Appeal Court judgment on Dr Alex Otti has
re-affirmed our confidence in the Nigerian judiciary, the BOT Chairman said.
Eulogizing the Party further, he said,“ the
motto of our great Party translated, “be your brother’s and sister’s” keeper.’
It is a remarkable philosophy which stirs in every member of our Party a sense
of brotherhood and a sense of community. If you are a good member of a
community, you would dive that community the very best of your service. That is
the philosophy that drives the high performance of APGA leaders. Dr Alex Otti
will give Abians the best leadership possible.
Similarly,
the substantive beneficiary, Dr Alex Otti described the judgment as a triumph
of the abiding will of the great people of Abia state against the principle of
thuggery, barefaced robbery and highhanded impunity adding that it is a victory
infavour of the helpless majority against the noise, unjust and parochial
minority. He reassured the citizens that his mission is
to restore the state to greatness.
“It is said that the windmill of
justice may grind slowly but it surely does grind. After more than seven months
of tortuous and needless legal tussle, the will of the people has triumphed,”
Otti stated.
Continuing, he said, “All through this
period my faith in the nation’s justice system never wavered and I am glad that
today’s judgment has justified our steadfast belief in the efficacy of the
system. In the face of clear injustice, you kept faith in the system and
refrained from self-help, even in the face of extreme provocation, denial and
injustice. I salute your high sense of civic responsibility.
“For all well-meaning citizens of Abia
and lovers of progress across Nigeria, the New Year has come a day earlier. On
this great day of liberation of the good people of Abia from the bonds of
mediocrity and self-centered oligarchy, let us savour the moment that restores
our trust in our nation’s judiciary and our undying faith in our heavenly
father, whose hand has been guiding this struggle for the return of our beloved
state to greatness.
“You must recall that Abia until the
emergence of incompetent and insensitive ‘lootocracy,’ was the commercial
powerhouse of West Africa. It was an industrial centre where multinationals and
indigenous entrepreneurs held sway. It was the area that produced such great
men as Michael Okpara, Dick Tiger, Jaja Wachuku, Alvan Ikoku, Nnanna Kalu, OC
Ememe and so on. Today, it is a shadow of its former self,” Dr Otti enthusiastically
concluded.
