PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has nominated
Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba and Mr. Nsima Ekere as the Chairman and Managing
Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), respectively.
If confirmed, Ekere will replace acting
Managing Director, Mrs Ibim Semenitari whose appointment had generated
controversies following the rotation of the position among the nine oil
producing states in the country.
The presidential nominees were contained in a
letter sent to Senate President Bukola Saraki by the president on Wednesday
seeking their confirmation by the Senate as provided by the enabling laws...
It is however, believed that the letter with
the names of the new nominees might be read on the floor of the Senate during today’s
plenary.
Senator Udoma-Egba, a senior advocate of
Nigeria (SAN) and a former Senate Leader from Cross River State was born on
March 8, 1956.
He was formally Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association,
Calabar branch; President of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce; a Director of the
Cross River Basin and Rural Development Authority, and Commissioner for Works
and Transport in the state.
Mr. Ekere, was deputy governor of Akwa-Ibom state
in 2012 to Godswill Akpabio but cleverly resigned from office on October 31,
2012 to escape his plotted impeachment by the state House of Assembly after a
political disagreement with the then governor.
He was one of the governorship aspirants on
the platform of the PDP during the 2015 general election, but later defected to
the All Progressives Congress (APC).
