NBS Partners UN, EU For Appraisal on Anti-Corruption Crusade



NATIONAL Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has commenced a collaborative appraisal initiative with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the European Union (EU) on the impact of change mantra of the present administration vis-à-vis integrity of public services in the country.
The exercise according to investigations is aimed at examining the progress made so far particularly against corruption and all related practices in public service through probable and verifiable facts on various mode of corruption affecting negatively the lives of the average citizens in the country.

In a statement by the NBS yesterday, the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be covered in the survey from April 30 to May 29 with emphasis also on reportage of corruption and other crimes perpetrated by public officeholders as well as impunity against the legal justice system.
In addition, the survey which targets about 33,000 households will attempt to establish the direct experiences of corrupt events as victims by citizens, gauge opinions and perceptions of citizens about recent trends, as well as patterns and policies on corruption.
It therefore sought the cooperation of respondents in volunteering accurate information to interviewers during the data collection exercise, adding that the success of the exercise will go a long way in putting things in the right perspective for the benefit of all and sundry in the country.
However, the survey-exercise is a follow-up to a pilot survey previously conducted on the same issue in Delta, Oyo, Katsina and Kwara States.
