SUPER
Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has this morning formally tendered his resignation
as the Head Coach of the Nigeria’s national football team, Super Eagles, to Nigeria
Football Federation, NFF, and accordingly, the NFF has acknowledged the
development.
Consequently,
the U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, according to a reliable source, has been put on
standby to succeed the former coach by the NFF.
Oliseh’s tenure had been subjected to
controversy since after the failure of the team to shine in Rwanda which led to
a divided opinion on his retention as the coach.
In his
tweet account, Oliseh who however showed gratitude for the opportunity to serve
the nation in such capacity also explained that the decision to quit was
prompted by lack of capacity to maintain contracts, lack of support to him and
the players and indebtedness.
“Due to contract
violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, assistant
coaches and myself, I resign as Super Eagles Chief Coach.
“I feel fortunate, blessed
and eternally grateful for having the honour to play, captain and coach this
great nation of ours, Nigeria,” he tweeted
According
to report, the NFF had on Thursday directed Oliseh to henceforth report to
former coach and the federation’s technical director, Amodu Shuaibu.

Oliseh's resignation is good. I never believed he had the competence or requisite experience to coach the eagles. He was a good player in his playing days. However, not all good players become good coaches. Besides, he was given the job without any successful coaching experience from any recognised club or nation. It is unusual to start a coaching career from the top.
