MINISTER for Power, Works and Housing Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN)
has appealed the consumers of electricity to exercise patience stating that government are sensitive of the challenges Nigerians are facing as a
result of the shortfall in electricity supply in the country.
Fashola explained that the federal government was assiduously working towards resolving the issue adding that government was more concerned on providing a permanent solution to the issue for the benefits of the citizenry which will boost productivity in all sectors of the economy.
The minister, who was represented by Mr. Bako Muhammed of the Finance
department in the ministry made the appeal in Jos on Monday during the official
flag off of the distribution of pre-paid meters, transformers and other
relevant equipment to consumers from the Jos zone comprising of Plateau,
Bauchi, Gombe and Benue states
‘‘Federal Government is appealing to all
Nigerians to remain patient and give government a little time because
government is coming up with genuine and permanent solutions to the
energy crisis. But a little more patience from all Nigerians is all government
needs to concentrate on plans to bring about the lasting solution’. The call has become necessary because Nigerians expect nothing less
than quality service from the electricity distributing and billing
companies all over the country”, he said.
Speaking further, the minister said that the reforms in the energy sector is a
genuine one assuring that Nigerians will certainly be grateful to this administration by the time its policies are implemented adding that the target of constant supply of electricity to every
home in the country is not a propaganda.
He therefore called on investors in the power sector to be committed and
transparent in implementing their own part of agreement for the benefit
of electricity consumers as partners in progress.
