RIVERS: I Would Have Opted Out Of Re-Run, Says Wike

Chief Nyesom Wike
GOVERNOR of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike on Sunday stated that he would have chosen not to re-contest the re-run election in the State if the Supreme Court had ruled otherwise for the sake of bloodbaths that were likely to be lost in the battle.

The governor stated this during his thanksgiving service at St; Peter’s Anglican Church in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in the State adding that the number of lives that could be lost in the election which had generated so much tempo in the state was sufficient for him to sacrifice the mandate to save those bloods.

Wike solemnly expressed his gratitude that the mandate the people stood determinedly for was retained with them adding that the judgment has indeed proven that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.
However, he added that he was confident that the victory would be given to him noting that few those to the judgment, men of God he holds in very high esteem prophesied that the judgment would be to his favour.

“Nothing is impossible with God. Men of God prophesied a few days to the Supreme Court ruling that the judgment will confirm the mandate given to him by the Rivers people.
“We won the election clearly as has been confirmed by the Supreme Court. If there was a rerun, I wouldn’t have contested because there would have been bloodbath,” Wike said.

On the state’s affairs, the governor alleged that the former governor of the State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi spent $150m on All Progressive Congress election between December 1  and 18 2014 and declared that all stolen money from the state’s treasury would be recovered.
