AHEAD of the 2019 governorship election in Delta
State, three notable opposition parties in the state, All Progressives Congress
(APC), Labour Party (LP) and Accord Party (AP) as well as other political
groups have agreed to form a formidable alliance towards terminating the PDP
rule in the state since 1999.
According to reports, it was gathered that the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 governorship election in the state, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor in a meeting in Warri hinted the state executive committee of the party of his meeting with Chief Great Ogboru of LP and Victor Ochei of AP kin which the three leaders agreed to strategically work together for the 2019 governorship election in order to unfailingly terminate the PDP leadership in the state which would be 20 consecutive years.
Following the development which the source
claimed was adopted by the members, the leadership of APC thereafter set up a
nine-member committee with Mr Fred Onokor Okpohworo as the chairman to liaise
with other committee members of the other groups toward putting machinery on
motion towards the eventual merger of all the groups.
The report stated that Emerhor was convinced that
the alliance will be the best viable option which had worked for the present
APC government in the central, and therefore urged members of the party to be
steadfast adding that the party has enormous packages for its members despite
the fact that at the moment, it is still battling to do the first thing first
which is to initiate programmes that will bring remarkable transformation in
the society in respect to its change agenda.
Speaking further, Emerhor noted that politics is
a game of numbers and charged all the members to see the 2019 change mandate in
the state as a collective responsibility adding that repositioning the party in
the state required increased membership.
In attendance were a member of the Board of
Trustees, Chief Frank Ovie-Kokori from the state, the State chairman of the
party, Prophet Jones Erhue, Deputy Chairman, Dr. Cyril Ogodo, Sir Olisaemeka
Akamukale, Chief VOT Abanum, Pastor Power Ziadeke Aghinighan and Solomon
Edeoja, among others.
