Electoral Commission, INEC has made a clarification that only candidates who
were recognized as candidates during the previous election which the court
ordered for re-run can participate in the elections as contestants.
The INEC
Resident Electoral Commission in Anambra State, Dr. Lawrence Azubuike disclosed
this on Friday in Awka, the state capital stating that the position of the
electoral body was very clear on the matter adding that only the political parties
and their respective candidates during the last election are eligible to
contest the re-run for Anambra Central Senatorial election of March 5.
“Following the Court of Appeal, Enugu
Division judgment on Dec. 7 2015, the re-run election would be held in the zone
on March 5.
“Pursuant to the said judgment, only political parties and candidates that participated in March 28, 2015 senatorial election in Anambra central Senatorial District will participate in the re-run election,’ the statement said.
“Pursuant to the said judgment, only political parties and candidates that participated in March 28, 2015 senatorial election in Anambra central Senatorial District will participate in the re-run election,’ the statement said.
Whilst calling on both the candidates, voters
and citizens to participate in the March 5 re -run election in Anambra Senatorial
zone of the state in accordance to the statutory rules, he assured that the
electoral body would ensure that a level playing ground is available for all
the political parties and its candidates during the election.
