OBJ’s Allegations Of Corruption On National Assembly Attracts More Criticisms

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
FORMER President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s allegations of corruption against the National Assembly earlier in the week have continued to attract criticisms mostly from members of the legislature.
Obasanjo in an open letter earlier in the week had accused the Senate and House of the Representatives of having a mixed multitude with mostly persons with selfish and corrupt tendencies.
Following the development, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Dr. Bukola Saraki had responded stating that its priorities are anchored on service delivery and good governance noting that the legislature is highly sensitive of the present economic crises in the nation, and hence would always ensure that the overall interest of the nation is paramount. The President of the Senate by statute is also the Chairman of the National Assembly comprising of the Senate and House of Representatives.

However, the lower federal legislative house, through its spokesman, Abdulrasak Namdas, said that the allegation was probably for the fourth and fifth National Assembly during the administration of President Obasanjo.
Namdas, who is Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs said that the House will not be distracted by any letter or allegation as its main concern now was to ensure the passage of the 2016 budget.
Hon. Dino Menaye was among the first to fire shots reminding the former President that his tenure was excessively marred by attempts to bribe the National Assembly towards his aborted third term bid.

Other members of both the Senate and House of the Representatives that spoke to Pinnacle InfoGallery BLOG aggregately filed similar remarks of disappointments against the elder statesman. Emphatically, all counter-alleged that Obasanjo is suffering from the losses he encountered during his tenure whereby he spent so much to have his third term but lost out despite the money doled out to the members of the legislature. However, he was advised to redirect his letter and anger to the legislature that frustrated him and not  the present one.
