Senate Charges Security Agencies, Bemoans Rate Of Killings In The Country

THE Senate has lamented over the rate of killings of innocent citizens in the country in the recent time and called on security agencies in the country to live up to expectation in bringing the situation under control.
The call followed a Point of Order moved by Sen. Joshua Dariye (PDP-Plateau Central) at plenary over the recent killing of Mr. Lazarus Agaie, a first-class traditional ruler in Bokkos, Plateau.
Relying on Order 42, Senator Dariye described the development as worrisome, recalling how a woman was recently killed in Kubwa, Abuja while preaching as well as the businesswoman hacked to death in Kano by Islamic fanatics and frowned at the rate at which innocent Nigerians were being killed which he described as alarming...

He therefore called for urgent steps by the relevant agencies as well as ensuring that the culprits are made to face the full wrath of the law.
Reacting to the motion, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, said that killing of fellow human beings is a crime against God and humanity and vowed that the Senate will ensure that the stakeholders take adequate steps to address the situation, and added that security agencies should prioritize preventive security than reactionary security.
“We must put an end to this senseless killing of people returning from their farms. Security agencies must get the culprits of this dastardly act. Our hearts go to the government and people of Plateau State”, Saraki said.
The motion was unanimously adopted and the legislators observed a minute silence for the deceased monarch and others who died in the incident.
It would be recalled that gunmen killed the 76-year-old Saf Ron-Kulere on Monday on his way to Bokkos after visiting his farm in Sha district in the area. Also killed alongside the monarch were his police orderly, Mr. Sunday Wuyah, his wife and his son, Shagari.
