INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission
(INEC) has today issued Certificate of Return to Samson Ogah following court
order that Okezie Ikpeazu vacate the Office of Governor of Abia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that
INEC National Commissioner (South East) Lawrence Nwuruku confirmed the issuance
of the certificate to Ogah.
Justice
Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting Abuja had ordered the
removal of Ikpeazu and also ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return
it issued to Ikpeazu, and re-award it to Ogah, who had received 103 votes
to Ikpeazu’s 487 at the primary election...
Meanwhile, the
embattled incumbent state governor, Ikpeazu has appealed to the Abians to
remain calm stating that by virtue of his notice of appeal and stay of
execution immediately after the ruling, the status quo remains which imply that
he remains the sitting governor until the matter is dispensed at the Court of Appeal.
Following the
latest development, all eyes are looking up to see the next actions, perhaps
the swearing-in of the new governor by the State Chief judge. Details as events
