BUHARI’S CREDENTIAL: Court Adjourns Case Indefinitely

Justice Adeniyi Ademola, of the Federal High Court, in Abuja, yesterday adjourned a suit challenging the authenticity of the academic credentials submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari indefinitely stating that the case was being adjourned indefinitely as a result of a notice of appeal filed by the President.
On Wednesday, President Buhari appealed against a previous ruling of the court dismissing his preliminary objection to the suit filed by Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe, an Abuja-based lawyer challenging the eligibility of Buhari to contest for the office of the President of Nigeria without meeting up the basic prerequisite.
Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe is alleging that Buhari did not sit for the Cambridge West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 as claimed and therefore unfit to occupy the office of the President.
However, senior lawyers on the camp of the President are Wole Olanipekun, Lateef O. Fagbemi, Akin Olujinmi, Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, Kola Awodein, Taiwo Osipitan, Charles Edosomwan, Emeka Ngige, Femi Atoyebi, Femi Falana, Funke Aboyade and H.O. Afolabi
It will be recalled that amidst the presidential campaign, there were controversies over the credentials presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicating that President Buhari who was then candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) did not possess the minimum qualification specified in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria as amended and pressures to disqualify Buhari intensified however in futility.
According to sources, the president allegedly did not include his WASC certificate in the binder of documents he tendered to the electoral body as required for candidates in an election.
