Embattled President of the Senate, Dr.
Bukola Saraki has been under intense pressures from distinguished colleagues to
consider the option of resignation from his position following the trial at the
Code of Conduct Tribunal which commenced properly yesterday over his alleged
false declaration of assets in pursuit to the 1999 constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
Senators as well as
some chieftains of his party, All Progressive Congress (APC) are considering
the option of resignation ahead of the judgment so as to protect the sanctity
of the senate in line with the conventional norms adding that the senate as an
institution is bigger than any individual.
On the other hand,
senators from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP were seriously strategizing to plant
one of its members for the position of the President of the Senate peradventure
Saraki throws in the towel taking advantage of the Deputy Senate President, Ike
Ekweremadu who is at the moment deputizing Saraki from the opposition, PDP.
From information gathered by PIGB, majority of the members of the Senate are in support of Saraki's immediate resignation having lost out in his quest to quash the trial against him by the Code of conduct Bureau.
