Nigerians and motorists in the country are
on high hopes expectant of abrupt end of long queues along the filling stations
in the country following the promise made by the Minister of State for Petroleum
and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,
NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu that fuel queues will disappear in major cities across
the country over the weekend.
The minister
made the development known in a town hall meeting with employees of the
Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) in Abuja yesterday stating
that normalcy will return to the petroleum sector soon, however regretted that
patience is required from citizens towards bringing the situation to a perpetual
end which is his priority.
Emphatically,
the Petroleum minister stated that for Nigeria to come out of the recurrent situation,
it will inevitably ensure that the downstream sector is working efficiently managed
and supervised.
“Hopefully by today through Thursday, the fuel
queues in Abuja should be over. Hopefully, the same thing will happen to Lagos
and thereafter, by the weekend, we should see Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Port
Harcourt and Warri get off this state.
“What concerns me more is not just getting the
present queues out that will definitely wear out, what concerns me more is how
do you avoid having to have that ever again in this country and to do that
there are certain things we need to do,” he said.
However, from our findings, queues
of motorists and other petrol users are still pilling up at the time of filing this report in Lagos, Abuja,
Nasarawa and Kaduna states despite assurances from the Minister that they would disappear before the weekend which starts formally tomorrow. Further reports as events unfold.
