HERDSMEN: FG Assures of Lasting Solution

FEDERAL Government has given assurance to bring the incessant attacks of the Fulani herdsmen against the hosting communities across the country to a permanent end stating that the government contrary to perceptions in some quarters, the federal government is highly worried and have been working towards stopping the menace.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, he refuted the allegations that the federal government has failed to address the issues as expected adding that President Mohammadu Buhari has not been silent on the matter.

“It is not true the President is sectional and that he has been silent on the Fulani herdsmen crisis because he is a Fulani. That is not true. The President has not been silent on the matter. It is unfortunate that some people choose what they want to hear.
The President has spoken against the crisis many times. We also issued a press statement on the matter. No stone will be left unturned in finding a lasting solution to the crisis”, he said.

It will be recalled that following the continuous terrorist attacks by the herdsmen on innocent Nigerians leading to loss of lives and properties at random, several organizations had petitioned the federal government over the ugly developments.

A frontline pan-Igbo association, Igboekulie recently called on the government to act swiftly against the excesses of this group which it said was capable of plaguing the nation into a regrettable situation. The association in a statement signed by its President, Prince Ben Onuora condemned the bill which proposed to give the federal government access to all lands for grazing arguing the rationale behind the move whereby all other businesses by other citizens from other geographical zones are operated accordingly without infringning on the rights and lands of another. It therefore enjoined the group to emulate other geographical zones by leasing ranches as part of the investment in their businesses.
