PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to honour all
agreements signed between Nigeria and China under previous administrations in
view of continuum of government so as to ensure the speedy completion of
outstanding joint projects, including the 4,000 megawatts Mambilla
Hydro-Electric Power Project.
In
a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media
and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, Buhari made the pledge on
Wednesday at a meeting with Mr Li Keqiang, the Premier of the State Council of
the Peoples Republic of China in Beijing.
Shehu
also noted that Buhari regretted vehemently the failure of previous
administrations to meet Nigeria’s obligations in joint projects with China, and
therefore assured the Premier that his administration was committed to the
completion, in the shortest possible time, of all joint power, rail, road and
aviation projects that would directly and quickly improve the lives of
Nigerians.
Furthermore,
President Buhari expressed his earnest desire to complete the Mambilla Power
Project because of its huge potential to boost employment and economic growth
in the nation which he said were the primary agendas of his administration.
In response, the Chinese Premier
commended the efforts of the President Buhari’s government to improve on
infrastructural development adding that the actions are thoughtful.
