President Mohammadu Buhari
President Mohammadu Buhari will be departing the country for Saudi Arabia today, Monday on official business engagements essentially to discuss some bilateral issues with his host counterpart. However, the President would be embarking on the trip not actually on his position as the President of Nigeria but as the Minister of Petroleum Resources as all issues relating to the trip are under the Petroleum ministry.

Consequently, the President according to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, will lead a high-powered Federal Government delegation, including the Minister of State (Petroleum) and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), Dr. Ibe Kachikwu on the trip. The statement added that the President will first visit Riyadyh for a meeting on Tuesday with King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and senior officials of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Top on the agenda between President Buhari and the Saudi Monarch as learnt would be on how Nigeria and other members of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) can achieve greater stability in the price of crude oil exports.

Similarly, same discussions would dominate in the meeting between President Buhari and Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Sunday.

The President’s schedule also indicates that Buhari would hold meetings with leading Saudi and Qatari businessmen in Riyadh and Doha, towards showcasing business and investment opportunities in Nigeria particularly in mining, agriculture, power supply, infrastructure, transportation, communications and other sectors.

Buhari would hold other engagements in Saudi Arabia including meetings with heads of international financial organisations and multilateral associations prior to visiting Doha and Medina for official engagements, and finally to Mecca to observe prayers, which according to reliable sources will be centered on peace, prosperity and progress in Nigeria.
