INSECURITY: Buhari Breaks Silence On MTN’s Fine, Accuses It Over Insurgency

President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his silence over the fine the federal government of Nigeria through the statutory organ of government imposed on MTN Nigeria over its non-compliance to register all SIMs under the network of the company.

Buhari on Tuesday (today) during a joint press conference at the Presidential Villa after the closed-door meeting with the visiting President of South-Africa, Mr. Jacob Zuma said that the failure of the South-African company to comply with the registration directive by the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC contributed greatly to the loss of thousands of lives of innocent Nigerians as well as properties worth billions of naira through the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

Emphatically, the President sai that the concern of the federal government was beyond the monetary value of the fine but on the security of lives and property which he impliedly said is the primary purpose of government.

“This is the first time I will be personally as a President  be making a public comment about it. The concern of the federal government is basically on the security and not the fine imposed on MTN. You know how the unregistered GSM are being used by terrorists. And between 2009 and today, at least 10,000 Nigerians were killed by Boko Haram”, President Buhari soberly stated.

President Buhari told the gathering that his administration will continue to take all positive actions that will enable it actualize its goals and agendas provided they are within the ambit of the law adding that no responsible government will sit and watch its citizens butchered and intimidated helplessly without taking drastic actions to counter it.
