POLICE Service Commission (PSC) has disclosed
that it has received a total of 705,352 applications from candidates seeking
employment into the Nigeria Police Force.
The
breakdown showed that 202, 427 applicants applied for the position of Cadet Assistant
Superintendent of Police; 169,446 for the position of Cadet Inspector and
333,479 for the position of Constables.
In
a statement by the PSC Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani on
Tuesday in Abuja, he said the commission planned to recruit 500 Cadet ASPs, 500
Cadet Inspectors, 1,500 Specialist Officers and 7, 500 Constables in line with President
Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to deploy fresh 10,000 citizens into the Force
aimed at reducing unemployment as well as strengthening the Police adding that the PSC Chairman, Dr. Mike Okiro, has
approved the application process.
“The Police Service Commission has at 7.30am
on Tuesday, April 19th, received 705,352 applications from applicants who
are seeking employment into the recently advertised 10,000 vacancies into the
Nigeria Police Force.
“President
Muhammadu Buhari at last year’s National Security Summit had approved the
recruitment of 10,000 policemen into the nation’s Police Force to reinforce the
Nigeria Police for better service”, he said.
Similarly,
the PSC has pledged to reform the nation’s Police Force to ensure accountability
in the conduct of police officers adding that the present administration is
keen to changing the usual mindset against the Police to the public which he
said has affected the efficiency and productivity of the personnel.
