FUEL SCARCITY: NLC Threatens, May Compel Workers On Sit-At-Home

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to mobilize workers across the federation to sit at home if the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, fails to immediately bring the lingering fuel scarcity to a perpetual end adding that the hardship brought about by the scarcity of petroleum products are unbearable putting into consideration the present economic challenges they are facing over the high exchange rate.

In a statement by its President, Ayuba Wabba, he lamentably said that Nigerians have already been subjected to unbearable hardship over the economic crisis and therefore highly worried over the recurring scarcity of petroleum products without any justifiable cause or causes for the scarcity.

However, the Congress pledged to support the government in standing against any form of economic sabotage in the country adding that any policy of the government that is anti-people will be resisted even with the last blood.
“We call on government to strongly intervene by sending out appropriate agencies, especially the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to enforce the sale of the products as some marketers have been reported to be hoarding the products.
“We restate our call for the speedy reactivation of local production of petroleum products as the country will continue to be held hostage by global economic manipulations if we remain tied to importation of petroleum products”, Wabba said.
