ABUJA: National Assembly Passes 2016 Appropriation Budget On March 17

THE National Assembly will, all things being equal, pass the long-awaited 2016 Appropriation Budget of the Federal Republic of Nigeria totaling N6.08 trillion on March 17.

The Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumini Jibrin, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja stating that the Appropriation Committees of both the chambers of the National Assembly had received the reports of budget defences of various ministries, parastatals, departments, and agencies from all its standing committees.
Jubrin added that the Senate and the House of Representatives will accordingly harmonize the parallel accounts towards arriving at a consensus as well as ensuring that the budgets are practicable, economically viable and with no element of controversies.

“We can confirm to you that all things being equal we should be able to lay our report of 2016 Appropriation Bill before the House and the Senate before the 16th of March 2016. “And of course the consideration should be done on 17th of March 2017.

“So it is safe for us to conclude that the 2016 Appropriation Bill will be passed on the 17th of March 2016’’, Jubrin said.

Speaking further, the Committee chairman noted the committee is expected to meet with the Ministers of Finance, Budget and National Planning, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Accountant-General of the Federation as well as the Director-General of the Budget Office in view of addressing inconsistencies and controversies so as to have a perfect job at the end.
