The federal
government has inaugurated a 17-man committee towards preparing a blueprint for
the development of the solid minerals sector in the country.
The Committee
to be headed by Professor Ibrahim Garba and co-chaired by Professor Siyan
Malomo will produce a viable blueprint which will contain a short-term of 24
months, mid-term of 10 years and long-term of 25 years towards the
transformation of the solid minerals sector.
The minister
while charging the members of the committee to see the offer with commitment to
the fatherland mandated them to come up with practicable action plans which
will lead to a successful diversification of the economy through the sector,
adding that the committee is at liberty to identify sub-sectional activities
along the mineral value chain that will enhance the rapid development of the
industry.
Similarly,
the minister of State for Solid Minerals, Hon Abubakar Bawa Bwari, in his
closing remarks enjoined the Committee to display expertise on the assignment
and essentially to produce a document that would stand the test of time.
Responding,
the chairman of the committee, registered his gratitude for entrusting the
enormous assignment to the members, and therefore pledged to deliver according to
the mandate and terms of reference.
