NIGERIA Police Force has deployed its personnel in
the Creeks of Bayelsa State and intensified efforts towards the arrest of Mr.
Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase
reportedly ordered the Bayelsa State Police Command to arrest and produce the
suspect who was declared wanted after a warrant of arrest was issued by a Lagos
Federal high Court in Lagos.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer,
Bisi Kolawole, the Inspector General of Police issued the order when it became
obvious that the former militant who was linked to the diversion of N34bn and N11bn
belonging to the National Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA
during the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan refused to submit to
the invitation by the EFCC and the Court summon to appear before it.
Others charged alongside Tompolo are the former Director-General
of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi also on another N45.9bn fraud; Kime Engozu, Rex
Elem, Gregory Mbonu and Captain. Warredi Enisuoh, Artificial persons charged
alongside are four companies, to wit; Global West Vessel Specialist Limited,
Odimiri Electrical Limited, Boloboere Property and Estate Limited and Destre
Consult Limited.
Commenting on the order from the Police boss, the
FPRO stated that the suspect days in the hideout are numbered as the Police
would track him irrespective of his whereabouts adding that the Police does not
require helping hands to track him down.
“As the IG stated, we have deployed men to carry out
the court order to arrest Tompolo and our men are on his trail. I don’t think it
would be necessary to involve other security agencies, the Police are up to the
task of apprehending him, she said.
