PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, began his two-day official visit to
Ogun State which was in commemoration of the 40th post creation anniversary
of the gateway state.
On
arrival at 6:30pm, the President flew into the Dipo Dina International Stadium,
Ijebu Ode in a chopper and was received at the stadium by the State governor, Senator
Ibikunle Amosun and other State government officials.
He
was immediately driven into the palace of Oba Adetona where he held a brief closed-door meeting with the Awujale, paramount ruler
of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona inside the monarch’s Ijebu-Ode palace with
the State governor. However, the details of the meeting was not made known up
till the time of filing this report.
Buhari,
after the meeting with Awujale and Amosun, also disclosed during the banquet
organised in his honour by the traditional ruler that he would be meeting with
former president Olusegun Obasanjo later last night.
Among
the numerous activities lined up for the Presidential visit is the commissioning
of 40 projects to mark the 40th anniversary of the creation of the state which
spreads across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Welcoming
the President, the Awujale unequivocally enjoined the President Buhari to determinedly
intensify his anti-corruption crusade adding that the nation had over the years
experienced retrogression and monumental decay due to high level of corruption
among public officeholders. The Ajuwale emphatically pledged his support to the
President tasking him never to relent irrespective of oppositions he could face
from some quarters.
“if
you don’t kill corruption, corruption would kill the country,” he said.
In
the President’s entourage were the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun;
Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Minister of Solid Minerals,
Dr. Kayode Fayemi, among others while several notable dignitaries including former
governors Aremo Olusegun Osoba and Otunba Gbenga Daniel; All Progressives
Congress National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Segun Oni; Oba Otudeko, Otunba
Mike Adenuga, Senator Gbenga Kaka; Chief Judge of Ogun, Justice Olatokunbo
Olopade and Olorogun Sunny Kuku and a host of many others were present to
honour the President.
