| Mrs. Folorunso Alakija |
NIGERIA'S entrepreneur and
philanthropist, Mrs. Folorunso Alakija will be participating in this year's
Christian pilgrimage in Jerusalem with no fewer than twelve women who are regular
participants in the weekly lunch-hour fellowship hosted in her Rose of Sharon
Glorious Ministry International (ROSGMI).
Alakija had in the course of an
illustration during her ministration late last year asked those that have
boarded aircraft to indicate only to discover that virtually none in attendance
fell into the category.
Out of passion, she declared that the ministry would
henceforth be sponsoring some of its members to the yearly pilgrimage in
Jerusalem, and subsequently came with the concept of ‘twelve disciples’ in the
bible, indicating that the yearly beneficiaries would be twelve in number,
however four participants in every quarter, and essentially those who are
regular participants of the outreach.
In the light of this, she reiterated
her position during last week meeting stating that the selection exercise would
take place in today’s fellowship meeting through “Pick n Win” method to ensure
free and fair selection adding that regular attendance would be the
prerequisite to eligibility. However, in consideration of new members, she
stated that consideration would be given to that effect.
Remarkably, the event coincided with
the birthday celebration of her husband, Mr. Modupe Alakija.
…
Alakija, an alumnus of the American
College, London and who also holds a chieftaincy title of ‘Ezinne’ in Igboland
is, no doubt, chronically diametric to indolence. In her typical prayer and
anointing services, emphatically, she always challenged God to extend the same
blessings on her to her brethren in the fellowship.
According to Forbes, an American
reputable publication, Alakija, who is the Vice Chairman, Famfa Oil; a Nigerian
oil exploration company with a 60% participating interest in Block OML 127
which partners with Chevron and Petrobrass is certifiably, the 2015 second
richest African woman after Isabel dos Santos; the oldest daughter of Angolan
President, Jose Eduardo dos Santos. Dr. Alakija is also reportedly rated the
third richest woman of African descent in the world.
With assets and investments sprang
all over the world, she’s net worth of over 2.1billion US Dollars. The
fashion-designer turned major investor in the oil sector is inarguably a force
to reckon with in most sectors of the economy particularly oil, real estate, digital
printing and publishing.
Born in 1951 to Chief L.A. Ogbara
family in Ikorodu, Lagos in a large polygamous family of eight wives and
fifty-two children, her mother was the first wife. She’s married to Modupe
Alakija since 1976 and the union which has become a reference point motivates
her hosting ‘Singles and Searching’ seminars. She is also the founder of Rose
of Sharon Foundation which has remarkably helped several widows and empowered
orphans and the less privileged through scholarships and financial supports.
On account of her fervor for pleasant
family-life, and advocacy against the plight of the less-privileged in the society, she is the author of ‘University of Marriage’; ‘The Cry of Widows and Orphans’
and ‘Alone with God’, a free Christian daily devotional.
At the event, the beneficiaries were
full of joy as God uses the ‘Servant-leader’ as she is fondly called to move
them to the next level. According to one of the beneficiaries from the choir,
Bro Ebiyele Owoturo, “Servant-leader is indeed a woman with God’s heart. Her
kind supports and assistances to us widows cannot be quantified or
overemphasized, and I pray that God will reward and continue to bless her more
abundantly, from glory to glory”, Owoturo enthusiastically stated.
