Oguebego is the authentic State Executive Council
of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Anambra State to be recognized by the
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the purpose of the previous
general elections.
Following the apex court’s position in relation to ‘nihil autem potest
aedificare’ (you cannot build
something on nothing) and ‘nihil fit ex nihilo’ (nothing comes from nothing) which are fundamental
principles of law; Senators Andy Ubah, Stella Oduah, Anayo Nnabe among
others who were elected on the platform of the sacked faction of the party have
automatically lost their positions and candidatures.
It would be recalled that prior to the election, two
factions broke out from the party by conducting parallel congresses and
primaries for various positions. All efforts to harmonise the factions by the
National Executive Council, NEC of the party proved abortive. Interestingly, the
two factions had two brothers; Andy and Chris Ubah in opposite camps with their
respective members. Andy’s camp also had Obinna Chidoka, Lynda Ikpeazu, Emeka
Anohu, Eucharia Anazodo, Chris Azubogu among others who were sworn-in.
Prominent on the other side which emerged finally victorious
include, Annie Okonkwo, John Emeka, Julius Oforma among others. Suffice to say
that all the decisions taken by the Oguebego-led PDP in the state including the
nomination of candidates in the election are binding and valid as the
resolution of the PDP in Anambra State.
Whilst Andy Ubah was declared winner and sworn-in in
respect of the March 28, 2015 election along with other candidates from his
camp, Chris with his camp resorted to challenge them and determinedly pursued
it to a logical conclusion by today’s apex court decision.
Consequently, jubilation and lamentations
have continued to trail the Supreme Court’s decision; depending on which side
the stakeholder belonged.
According to Mr. Julius Oforma, a House of
Representatives candidate from the authentic camp, he described the judgment as
a landmark judgment. Similarly, Chief Annie Okonkwo reportedly hailed the judgment
stating that the judiciary has indeed proved to be the last hope of the common
man.
Efforts to reach some of the members of the
sacked camp have as at the time of filing this report futile. Nevertheless, the
reports reaching from the State capital, Awka indicate that the city has suddenly
turned to jubilation galore.
