2019 Presidency: Salient issues before pitching tents By Carl Umegboro
INDISPUTABLY, the die is cast between
the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the oppositions for the
control of power particularly the central government as this tenure wraps up. However,
the titanic battle will likely be between APC and the major opposition,
Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on account of its widespread, viable and
visible structures across the nation as a former ruling party.
2019: Time for issues-based campaigns By Carl Umegboro
AS campaigns for Presidential and
National Assembly elections kicked off on November 18 ahead of the February
polls, it is requisite that all participants must play the game by the rules of
the electoral umpire. To serve the people shouldn’t be by might. If not, it is
no longer for service-delivery but selfish interests. The overall essence of politicking
is to sell ideas and dreams to the people for evaluation.

Trump’s‘lifeless’ remarks:Reckless and amateurish By Carl Umegboro, ACIArb (UK)
PRESIDENT of the United States of
America, Donald Trump grouchily ridiculed the highly-rated America by his reckless
and unsound attacks on Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari that has the mandate of
the people to lead and represent them. Trump, a moment ago unkindly described Buhari
who he played host to in April and gave a topnotch treat at White House as “lifeless”.
By the gaffe, Trump extensively, verbally battered the good people of Nigeria
that gave their mandate to Buhari to exercise their sovereignty vis-à-vis
universal suffrage.

Saraki and senate leadership By Carl Umegboro, ACIArb (UK)
SINCE the inauguration of President
Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2015, the
executive-legislature relationship is more or less cat-and-mouse with copious
turbulences. The brawls began from the election of principal officers of the
Senate. Calculatedly, embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki of APC then,
representing Kwara Central schemed, and emerged the President of the 8th Senate
against the choice of the leadership of the party, and strategically,
munificiently ceded key positions including Deputy Senate President to the
major opposition, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to consolidate his strange
deeds.

Prepaid metering as a remedial mechanism for improved electricity By Carl Umegboro
INARGUABLY, electricity customers
have never gotten a fair deal from the distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria,
instead outrageous bills have remained their lot. The service providers every
now and then freely bombard the electricity consumers with outrageous bills
even without services rendered. It doesn’t matter to them if the customer didn’t
use any electricity for months probably the customer toured abroad or kept
apartment under lock and key.

Ebonyi lawmakers’ ultimatum to Anambra government By Carl Umegboro, ACIArb (UK)
The up-to-the-minute squabbles
between Anambra state government and Ebonyi House of Assembly is to say the
least uncalled for and trivial. The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano renamed
the old ‘Abakaliki Street’ in Awka to “Club Street’ purportedly to synchronize
the master-plan. Consequently, he designated another street the government considered
suitable and more strategic for its swap.
Obiano’s mandate and Anambra political developments By Carl Umegboro, ACIArb (UK)
GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Dr. Willie
Obiano on 17 March renewed his oath of office for a second term following his landslide
victory in the November
18, 2017 election. A mammoth
crowd from within and outside cheerfully witnessed the inauguration. By his laudable
performance which largely, advantageously worked for him at the poll, Akpokuedike-Aguleri
indeed deserved a second term.
INEC and Election Reordering Bill By Carl Umegboro, ACIArb (UK)
The bill of the Parliament seeking to
reorder the sequence of elections which intriguingly hit the brick wall remains
a pandemonium. President Muhammadu Buhari recently withheld his assent over
purported conflicts and interference in the administrative duties of the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Statutorily, powers to make
laws for the federation are vested in the National Assembly; nonetheless, the
powers are relative and not absolute.
