LOPSIDED APPOINTMENT: South-East Disagrees With Ngige, Calls For Redress

Dr. Chris Ngige
MINISTER of Labour ‎and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, was on Monday booed over his attempts to defend appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari as most of the attendees vehemently rejected all his explanations unanimously in loud voices insisting that the South-east geopolitical zone is grossly marginalized by the present administration.
Ngige, who was in the Enugu at the Town Hall meeting for the South-East region organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture had tried to defend President Buhari’s appointments, stressing that a leader who takes responsibility of service delivery should be allowed to work with a team he believes in...
However, this statement rather than calming the situation escalated it with clear resistance from the people who said that President Buhari has impliedly divided the country already and only presides over the North since the federal character provided for in the constitution to promote unity has been overlooked.
Apart from the appointment, some others at the event expressed displeasure at the level of neglect they said the region was facing including on infrastructural development stating that the region is sidelined on federal presence.
At this juncture, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu called on Buhari-led government to fulfill its promises to the people of the zone particularly by attending to epileptic power supply, bad roads in the region and resuscitating of the Ugwuoba Gas Field in Oji River local government area of the state.
“I recall the President’s campaign promise to revive the coal mines in Enugu and utilise it to generate electricity.
“Coal is a major energy source in some countries of the world and we have it in abundance in the state. If this is done it will directly or indirectly create job opportunities for millions of Nigerians”, Ugwuanyi said.
Furthermore, Archbishop Chukwuma frowned over the purported warned removal of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President.
