SOCIAL rights group,
Occupy Nigeria has fixed a public protest against corruption and all manner of
anomalies going on in the National Assembly to hold on October 10 in the
Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement titled “The Time to rescue Nigerians has come” aimed
at mobilizing the general public, the group stated that the action became necessary
following the ongoing weighty disclosures surrounding the nation’s annual
budget allegedly tampered, with billions of public fund almost stolen by
principal officers of the National Assembly...
Occupy Nigeria therefore
called on concerned citizens to join its efforts on the date to correct the
obnoxious impression that democracy is synonymous with corruption demanding for
total transparency in the arm as well as recommending the National Assembly
finances to be subjected to the Treasury Single Account (TSA). The statement reads.
“We Demand the Total Transparency of NASS. Let the Legislators
make their budget open. They should also join the Treasury Single Account
(TSA). NASS should put an end to
Unconstitutional Constituency Projects.
“We demand for the Death Penalty to the politically corrupt. No
Fraudulent Salaries/Gratuities to NASS members. Legislative business should
become a Part-Time job for efficiency and to save money.
“We Demand a Legislative Bill for a Referendum to determine the
Legislature for the operation of Unicameral Legislation in Nigeria. This demand
will require that the current Nigerian National Assembly Structure be Scrapped.
“We demand for Legislative Framework that includes the Payment of
Civil Servants Salary as the first line charge for all civil servants at all levels
of Government. There should a constitutional amendment for Power
Generation/Management to be included in the concurrent legislative list.
“We are demanding the Constitutional Amendment for the removal of
immunity for all Political officer Holders with regards Criminal Matters.

It added that the protest will be peaceful, however successful
stressing that the time to fight corruption in the country is now.
