LAGOS State House of Assembly
has confirmed the appointment of the immediate past Chief Judge of the state,
Justice Ayotunde Philips, as the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent
Electoral Commission.
Justice
Philips’ appointment was confirmed during plenary on Thursday, following her
nomination by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, a statement said.
During
her defense at the plenary session of the House earlier, Justice Philips
emphatically pledged to serve the state meritoriously adding that the
responsibility demands honesty and dedication.
The Speaker of the
House, Mudashiru Obasa, while reminding her of the expectation on the new job
said that it requires both personal inspections and monitoring unlike her
former job which only demands the parties to present issues before her.
“You will now need to
visit all the Local Government Areas in the State during the registration for
the election and during the election proper.
“You
must be ready to do the job as required so that we could have a free and fair
election. We count on you since you were successful during your tenure as the
Chief Judge”, he sdaid.
The Speaker while
congratulating her for meeting the requirements of both the state governor and
the Honourable members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, he urged he to use
her experiences to do a perfect job that will move the state to the next level,
and finally, wished her a successful and remarkable accomplishments in her tenure.
