FG Set To Monitor, Boost Economy with N350bn in Coming Weeks

FEDERAL Government has assured that it has put all the necessary machinery in place towards strictly checkmating the disbursement of the N350 billion it is about to inject for stimulating economic activities in the country in the coming weeks to ensure efficient service delivery.
 
This was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal at the second National Conference on Public Procurement held in Abuja on Thursday themed, “Sustaining the Anti-Corruption through Best Procurement Practices” adding that effective procurement process will play a fundamental role in the exercise.


The SGF who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties in the Presidency, Mrs. Phyllis Nwokedi emphatically said that the N350bn economic stimulus was aimed at resuscitating the economic activities in the country adding that Federal Government will strictly monitor thoroughly the disbursements to ensure that all its policies are implemented according to the blueprints approved by the government.

“Government recently committed to the injection of N350bn into the economy to enable contractors to discharge their obligations in the delivery of infrastructure. This imposes greater responsibilities on procuring entities, contractors and service providers.

 “Every kobo disbursed will be strictly guided by procurement rules. We are confident that the state stands to benefit from the procurement system that is transparent, efficient, competitive and accountable”, Lawal assured.

Speaking further, the Acting Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Mr. Ahmed Abdu commended the conference adding that it would serve as a retreat towards efficient and efficient utilization of public fund for sustainable service delivery.

“It is also to formulate new strategies for compliance with due process in public expenditure and cartel tendencies to circumvent the process. All are aimed at aligning the Nigerian procurement system with world best practices, he said.
