GOVERNOR Akniwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has reached out to
the members of the National Assembly representing the state with a view to work
together towards moving the state forward on its developmental drives.
According to a report, the governor who was represented by
his Special Adviser on Civil Engagement, Mr. Kehinde Joseph met with members of
the Senate and House of Representatives on Thursday at Abuja stating that the
meeting was aimed at acquainting the lawmakers with the policies of the state
government for collaborative efforts of the state government and the National
Assembly.
“There is a need to let our representatives at the federal
level know about our policies, especially the Office of Civil Engagement. The OCE acts as the link between the national and the state
House of Assemblies as well as the state Executive Council. I can assure you
that the office will not rest on its oars to ensure harmonious relationship
among the three", he said.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa, who spoke, enthusiastically commended
the initiative stating it would bring about harmonious relationship and unity
of purpose between the lawmakers representing the State and the state
government.
“There is this general feeling that once you leave your state
to serve as a member of the National Assembly, you are on your own. We are
happy that the Lagos State Government has broken the trend by telling us that
we have been abandoned. It is good to know that we will no longer rely on the
media to know what is going on in our state”, he said.
