NJC Penalizes Erring FHC Judge, Gives Partial Suspension

The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Wednesday sanctioned Justice Ruth Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court (Lagos division) for misconduct.
In a statement signed by its Acting Director, Information, Soji Oye, the NJC has placed her on its “watch list” with immediate effect for a period of four years adding that by this development, the judge is incapacitated for promotion to the Court of Appeal or any appointment including assigning in any ad-hoc judicial appointment till her retirement from the Bench.
The NJC’s decision, taken at its meeting on February 24 and 25, was following the findings and recommendations having been firmly found culpable in the discharge of her duties. According to investigations, she was evidently involved in misconduct over delivery of judgment in a pre-election case against a party in the suit until the ruling became of no effect.
