INSPECTOR-General
of Police, Solomon Arase, on Tuesday promoted 11 Police officers of the Ebonyi
State Police command on the spot for their various outstanding performances
during his one day working visit in the state.
Ten of the
beneficiaries were the sentry-men that mounted guard during the IGP’s visit
while another police corporal was promoted and decorated immediately by the IGP
for presenting a proposal for police data collation in the country.
However,
the IGP charged his men to always respect the fundamental rights of Nigerians
in the discharge of their duties noting that as officers who performed
creditably well are promoted, it also demands that those bringing the Force to
disrepute will be justifiably demoted.
“The
fundamental human rights of Nigerians are very paramount. You must respect the
rights of Nigerians, and ensure that that you discharge your duties in line
with the code of conducts of the Force” the IGP cautioned.
Similarly, Arase
offered automatic scholarship to a JSS 3 student whose late father was a Police
officer, Master Oluwasesan Abiodun, to university level for excellently composing
and reciting a poem on the gallant efforts of the police he titled “The Nigeria
Police”.
In his
address, Arase noted that for the Police to record a remarkable goal in the
command, it will need a collaborative efforts with all the stakeholders stating
that with about 3,800 policemen in the command vis-à-vis the land mass and population, the personnel will incontrovertibly
be inadequate to physically be everywhere in the state.
He however
assured that he will continue to encourage dedication to duty as well as ensure
to the welfare of members of the Police Force, adding that about 40,000
officers have been promoted since he assumed office across the nation.
