PRESIDENT Mohammadu Buhari will today leave the country to
attend a global summit on nuclear security in the United States of America
organized for world leaders and renowned stakeholders in security. Apart from the hosting President Barack Obama, other world
leaders are expected to be at the event which starts tomorrow in Washington DC.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on
Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina on Tuesday in Abuja, President Buhari who
will be accompanied by Governor Mohammed Abdullahi of Bauchi State; Governor
Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey
Onyeama; National Security Adviser to the President, Major-Gen. Babagana
Monguno (rtd) and Director-General of the Nigeria’s Nuclear Regulatory Agency,
NNRA, Professor Lawrence Anikwe Dim will also hold a bilateral with the United
States Government as well as other participating Heads of Government.
Highlighting on the importance of the summit to the country,
the Presidential spokesman said the summit is committed to checkmating the
arbitrariness in the use of nuclear weapons towards ensuring that the rights of
other countries are not abused by the world powers but for development
purposes. President Buhari and his team are expected back in the country on
Sunday.
