PRESIDENT Mohammadu
Buhari has congratulated the President-elect of Benin Republic, Mr Patrice
Talon, on his electoral victory in Sunday’s presidential run-off as announced
by the Autonomous National Electoral Commission, ANEC.
A statement
issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President,
Femi Adesina indicated that President Buhari also commended President Boni
Yayi, the government and people of Benin Republic over the maturity and orderliness
they displayed during the elections in the country.
Emphatically,
the Buhari eulogized the statesmanship of Prime Minister Lionel Zinsou and
presidential candidate of the ruling coalition, in upholding the democratic
process by accepting defeat thereby congratulating his major contender, Talon,
on his electoral victory.
According to
him, Yayi deserved commendation for his leadership throughout the electoral
process and for his invaluable contribution to democratic governance in the
sub-region, evidently demonstrated in the successful conduct of the presidential
elections adding that he was optimistic that that the Beninese will in like
manner give the incoming government all the supports to move the county to a
greater height.
On bilateral
relationship between the two countries, Buhari stated that Nigeria would
continue to build strong partnerships with Benin Republic as well as her other neighbours
for the peaceful coexistence, progress of the citizenry.
