FEDERAL High Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday struck out a
suit filed by the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah against the
Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Independent Corrupt Practices
Commission,(ICPC) and two others challenging her trial over the controversial
procurement of BMW armoured vehicles during her tenure at a cost of N225
million.
The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang struck out the case which was filed on the basis of fundamental human rights for lack of merit, and also awarded a cost of N15,000 as pecuniary damages against the applicant, Oduah in favour of the defendants.
Oduah who is a serving senator filed the suit to prevent the
Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Independent Corrupt Practices
Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the
Inspector General of Police (IGP) from arresting, investigating or prosecuting
her over the purchase of the two amoured BMW cars bought by the Nigerian Civil
Aviation Authority (NCAA) with her approval as the Minister of Aviation in a
suspicious circumstance in 2013 during President Goodluck Jonathan’s
administration.
