SENATE President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have declined on the
N10billion voted in the 2016 budget of the Ministry of Federal Capital
Territory (FCT) for the building of their official quarters, opting for a
remarkable reduction in the vote.
According to a reliable source from the
National Assembly, the President of the Senate and his House of Representatives
counterpart Dogara, directed the chairman of the Committee on the Federal
Capital Territory at the weekend to cut down the votes on their official
quarters in the budget to N1billion
towards saving N8billion.
The source also indicated that the decision
was in view of the present economic situation in the country as well as the
need to reduce wasteful spending in governance adding that Saraki relocated to
an official guest house late last year after an inferno while the speaker is
still living in a rented apartment.
