| Senator Chris Ngige |
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige
has described the road transport workers as viable and highly resourceful partners
on economic development of the country.
Ngige, made the remarks during a courtesy visit to his office
by the Executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW led by
its President, Alhaji Najeem Yasin. The minister categorically stated that the
Union has undeniably contributed immensely to the development of the economy on
account of high volume of employment opportunities offered in the country through
it.
He added that road transportation in all countries is highly
important to the government as a conventional means of movement for the masses;
hence its importance cannot be overemphasized stressing that no matter how rich
or poor an individual may be, road transportation is inevitable.
The Minister also highlighted some of the prominent goals of
President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration noting that the country had remained
at a standstill over the years due to bad leadership and therefore enjoined
them to support the federal government in all its policies particularly the
anti-corruption crusade which is aimed at restoring the lost glory of the
nation.
The President of the association, in his address also
congratulated Ngige on his appointment as the Minister in the present
administration adding that by his antecedents, his impacts in the society will inevitably
be felt.
Yasin also pledged the unalloyed support of his association
to the government stating that it has confidence that the present leadership of
the country would move the country forward and deliver the expected dividends
of democracy. He however prayed for the repose of the soul of Pa Akunnia Ngige,
the minister’s father who passed on recently.
While expressing gratitude to the Union on the condolence
visit, Ngige reiterated that the federal government would not relent in its
promises made to the masses during the party’s campaign adding that whatever
promises the party made during the campaigns are not propaganda but for real.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has indicated that President
Buhari, Prof Yemi Osinbajo and other top government officials will be among
other dignitaries to pay last respect to the Patriarch of Ngige family. Among
other prominent offspring in the family is Chief Emeka Ngige, a senior advocate
of Nigeria.
