THE senate has voted against the sale of
Nigeria’s assets being proposed by the executive arm of the Federal Government
of Nigeria.
Senate majority leader, Ali Ndume, who moved a
motion at the Senate chamber urged the senate to reject the proposal for the
sale of the nation’s assets in overall interest of the nation.
“I hereby move that the senate oppose the sale of
national assets to shore up our reserves”, Nduma said.
Following the development, the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki put the motion to a voice vote which overwhelmingly favoured the motion.

The federal government as a result of the recession
has opted to the sale of some national assets to possibly implement the 2016
appropriation budget. Apart from the
Senate, the civil rights groups and labour unions have collectively kicked against the proposal and
lambasted the federal government.
