EMIRATES Airline plane arriving
from India caught fire on landing in Dubai on Wednesday with video footage
showing a broken aircraft engulfed in smoke.
Emirates in official statement said
its plane was involved in an accident but offered no details about what may
have caused it. However, there were no loss of life among the 282 passengers
and 18 crew on board the Boeing 777 aircraft.
“All passengers and crew are
accounted for and safe,” Emirates stated.
Following the incident, the
operator of Dubai International Airport, which suspended flights immediately,
said departures would resume soon...
In a separate statement, Dubai’s
media office said emergency response teams at the airport had fully
extinguished the fire on the Emirates plane. Emirates Airline Flight 521
departed from Thiruvananthapuram, India, at 10:19 a.m. and was scheduled to
land at Dubai International Airport at 12.50 p.m.
According to the manifest, the
nationalities of those on board included 226 from India, 24 from the U.K., 11
from the U.A.E., and six each from the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.
Boeing, the manufacturing firm
said in a statement that its team was monitoring the situation in Dubai and
would work with Emirates towards securing vital information as to the cause of
the crash.
