| Pres. M. Buhari |
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday appealed
to the militants in the Niger-Delta region, saying the unity of Nigeria not negotiable
adding that rather than adopting destructive mechanisms, they should avail
themselves for dialogue.
Buhari said this when he hosted some guests at
the Presidential Villa, Abuja, who came on a visit to pay him homage on the
occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
“I assure them that the saying by Gen. Yakubu
Gowon that ‘to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’ still stands.
“In those days we never thought of oil, all we
were concerned about was one Nigeria.
“So please pass this message to the militants,
that one Nigeria is not negotiable and they had better accept it. Nigerian constitution is clear as to what
they should get and I assure them there will be justice”, he said...
Also at the event, Vice President Yemi
Osinbajo noted that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration should serve as a period for
sober reflection and forgiveness of sins adding that the past one year in the
life of the current administration had been tough, but that efforts were on to
clear the mess inherited from the previous administration.
“This administration has been quite busy
clearing the mess it met on ground. We are committed to placing the country on
a sound footing and happy enough things are already looking up.
“We pray that the president gets the wisdom
and strength to overcome any challenge facing the country,” Osinbajo said.
Among top dignitaries who paid homage to the
president were Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal;
CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele; Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican
Communion), Nicholas Okoh; Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq
Abubakar; National Security Adviser, Babagana Mongunu; Acting Inspector-General
of Police, Ibrahim Idris; Dr. Kabir Adam of the National Mosque, Abuja, among
others.
