RIVERS: Wike Clarifies Position, Supports Free and Fair Election

Nyesom Wike
RIVERS State Governor, Barr Nyesom Wike has refuted the claims of the All Progressive Congress, APC chapter in the state stating that the governor was inciting the people ahead of the March 19 state and National Assembly elections in the state.

The APC had accused the governor of threatening the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC that will conduct the elections if they have intention of rigging the forthcoming elections.
Clarifying the statement, the governor who spoke while inspecting the first phase of the Nkpogu Road in Port Harcourt explained that he was quoted out
of context adding that he was cautioning people that planned to rig the elections to have a re-think as the state will not be conducive for such anomaly to take place under his watch.
However, he pointed out that his position on the matter was consistent with President Mohammadu Buhari’s principles on free and fair elections in the country..
“Some people say that I am making inciting statements. I have never made any inciting statement. But I have always said the truth. President Buhari has also said that one of the ways Nigeria will be respected is for the country to always conduct a free and fair election. For us in this administration, we are supporting a free and fair election.
“Instead of them to praise me that I am supporting what the President said, they said I am making inciting statements. We will not allow anybody to rig; we must protect our votes. It is for us to reclaim our mandate and protect what we have and this is the opportunity to tell Nigerians that we never made a mistake last time. We will repeat the victory on March 19”, Wike said.
