NIGERIAN Stock Exchange (NSE) in conjunction with the
Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy in Nigeria (CECP) has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards setting up a mobile cancer centre in
the country.
Chief of Staff and Head, Corporate Services of the NSE, Bola
Adeko disclosed this yesterday during a press briefing on the NSE 2016
corporate challenge programme billed to hold on May 14, 2016 in Lagos adding
that the sum of N36.5million raised by the Exchange in the last year’s
programme will be committed to the project.
Adeko also assured that the NSE will continue to partner with
CECP in its fight to eradicate cancer in then society noting that the effects
of cancer in the society cannot be overemphasized.
Speaking also, Executive Secretary of CECP, Dr. Abia Nzelu
while commending the NSE on its concerted efforts against cancer urged
government to promote and essentially introduce incentives that will encourage
private sector supports to the projects in the country.
Emphatically, Nzelu said that smoking contributes to a large
extent to cancer ailments in the society.
“Smoking is a big risk factor. The problem with smoking is
that it does not affect only the primary consumer. The legislation that people
should stop smoking in public places should be be implemented to reduce the
risk of others dying from what they know nothing about. This implementation is
already on in other countries to protect their citizens from being affected”, he
said.
On the 2016 Corporate Challenge which is scheduled to take-off
from Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, the NSE Head, corporate
Communications, Olumide Orojimi stated that the participating fee for listed
companies were N400,000 and N100,000 for brokerage firms and N500,000 for
non-listed companies.
