The Minister of
Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN, has during his maiden
meeting with power generation, transmission and distribution companies, and
other stakeholders unfolded a 13-point agenda which he said were aimed at improving
power supply in the country.
Fashola who categorically
sought for the cooperation of all the stakeholders towards addressing the rot
in the system and thereby meet up with the target said that the agenda was decisively
drawn up to towards effective service delivery in the sector.
He explained that
the agenda would involve continuous public engagement on tariff collection, debts,
power generation, maintenance, ancillary services, dispatch orders and discipline. Others
areas he noted include gas requirement and constraints, transmission constraints,
33KV load off-take, imbalances-locations of excess, overload safety, service
quality, new captive and embedded generation, franchising and other issues
relevant to the growth of the sector.
Explaining further,
the minister stated that the President has graciously approved monthly stakeholders
meetings on issues concerning the industry adding that the meetings would be rotational
among the various GENCOs, DISCOs, TCN and other stakeholders across the country
with all decisions reached binding on all the stakeholders.
Furthermore, he
stated that the quorum would be made up of representatives of various
companies, consumers, lawyers, engineers, planners and all other relevant stakeholders
adding that the meetings would always be sponsored through mutual partnership
with the companies.
He finally said that each meeting would produce a communiqué which
would serve as terms of reference in the sector for improvement and efficiency
in the sector.
