Inferno claims over 80 lives in Anambra

No fewer than eighty persons including customers who went for refill in preparation of the Christmas, neighbours and passers-by were burnt to death at the commercial city of Nnewi in Anambra state on Thursday following an inferno which resulted from an unexpected gas explosion.
The charred bodies of the victims were later moved to the morgue at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, in Nnewi while others partially injured admitted for treatments. According to an eye witness, the flames allegedly didn’t allow rescue workers into factory where a high population of helpless workers was trapped.


The tragedy which shook an LPG Gas Plant, owned by Inter Corp Oil Limited, believably a subsidiary of the Chikason Group started at the process of a discharge by a truck. The incident suddenly turned the commercial city into a mourning mood as weeping and dirge characterized the environment. A relative of one of the deceased victims wept uncontrollably stating that he was supposed to go for the refill together with the deceased, but was delayed in the traffic. He concluded that the incident was his first encounter of losing a close relative in such a horrific circumstance.
